Botox  (Botulinum Toxin Type A)

Botox (Botulinum Toxin Type A)

Botox is produced from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum.  Plastic Surgeons use Botox in small doses to smooth wrinkles and reduce the signs of aging.  Botox injections work by weakening and paralyzing muscles and by blocking certain nerves.  Botox is also used to treat other medical conditions such as;

  • excessive underarm sweating
  • overactive bladder
  • chronic migraine
  • blepharospasm (uncontrollable blinking)
  • strabismus (misaligned eyes)
  • cervical dystonia (a neurological disorder which causes severe muscle contractions off the neck and shoulders)

As mentioned above, Botox is produced from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum.  This is the same toxin that causes a life-threatening type of food poisoning called botulism.  So, do your research! Visit our blog titled, "Love Yourself" there we discuss how to find a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon that's right for you.
