Laser treatment of leg veins

Laser treatment of leg veins

Laser treatment of leg veins is used to correct the appearance of varicose veins.  Varicose veins are blue and protrude from the leg.  Varicose veins appear when the valve in veins of the legs that usually keep blood flowing towards the heart and prevent blood from pooling in the vein is damaged or missing.  Small bursts of light on the surface of the skin is used to make varicose veins disappear.

Sclerotherapy .is used on small spidery looking veins.  Saline (salt water) or a chemical is injected into the vein causing it to harden and disappear.

Phlebectomy is when small cuts are made near the damaged vein, then the vein is removed.  This procedure is sometimes performed using a light under the skin to guide treatment.

Ablation  this procedure involves puncturing the vein, then threading a flexible catheter through the vein. Afterward intense heat is applied to destroy the vein and overtime the vein will disappear.
