TNC Recovery Care Tips For Happy Healing!

  • Planning is the key to a successful healing experience.  Make sure you  discuss with your Surgeon how much time you will need before returning to work or school prior to scheduling your surgery.  Especially, if you don't have a desk job and your job requires heavy lifting, or strenuous activities.  Most  procedures will require you to take at least one to two weeks off before returning to your usual activities.
  • Stay healthy!  If you're a candidate for plastic surgery you're in good health. The best way to maintain good health prior to surgery is to stay hydrated, and eat a nutritious healthy diet.  Avoid large gatherings, and people who you know are sick with colds or flu-like symptoms.  Exercise, and quit smoking!  Smoking raises blood pressure, decreases blood circulation, decreases blood oxygen levels needed to assist in healing and destroys healthy lung tissue.  If you're a long-time smoker try nicotine gum, or nicotine patches to fight cravings.  Your lungs need to be in the best condition possible to aid in the healing process, and to function properly when receiving general anesthesia.
  • Pack light comfortable clothing.  Nightgowns that button or zipper down the front.  Pajamas that snap at the inseam and sides for easy toileting, and dressing changes.(Avoid pull over shirts, hoodies, and tight fitting clothing )  Don't forget your favorite slides, bedroom slippers or flip-flops.  Search "TNC'S" website for comfortable post surgical wear, compression garments, protective pads, drain belt holders etc.
  • Prepare your recovery location, whether it's your home or a hotel prior to surgery. Place your favorite book, iPad, computer, and phone on the bedside table or night stand in arms reach.
  • Get your prescribed pain medications and antibiotics filled to have on hand, prior to surgery.  It's a good idea to get any over the counter medications like laxatives as well.  If you've hired TNC, our nurses will complete this step for you.  This is an important step.  TNC's goal is to manage your pain BEFORE it's out of control. No one wants to be at a pain level of 10, waiting for their prescriptions to be filled!
  • Keep your favorite cup or glass near filled with ice water to keep hydrated after surgery.  Have your favorite ice cream, Jell-O, pudding, or popsicles on hand for the first 24hrs after your surgery.  Only clear liquids are  recommended after receiving general anesthesia.
  • Ask a family member or friend to assist you during your time of recovery. This avoids over exerting yourself and gives your body time to heal and recover properly.  Don't forget to give a list with emergency contact information to anyone who is assisting you with recovering.
